A method is described for determining the glass transition temperature (Tg) of both dry and wet acrylic filament. The method involves the use of dynamic mechanical analysis and a novel method of mounting the test specimen. The presence of water reduced the Tg of dry acrylic fibre by 20, thus demonstrating the plasticising action of water upon the polymer.
