From: Anders Puranen To: Duncan Price Subject: My D5 mods Date: 06 December 2006 16:10 Hi Maybe you are interested in my D5 mods. I have some pictures of it in my album on a Swedish diveforum: http://www.dykarna.nu/photoAlbum/album.asp?albumId=12799&userId=1829&referer=/photoAlbum/photoalbums.asp As I think you run it I also found that a std Ray-DSV is nicer for slingoperation. I have changed to inhale and exhale bags. O2 is feed from a KISS valve mounted on the sling O2-cylinder. I detuned a RAY-dosage so that it does not open to easy (no dil CMF-flow) and use it in the inhale bag as an ADV. There are also two cells in the inhale bag. I run an rEVOdream with HUD from it. I put in a spring loaded one way valve downstream of the BCD-conector in the bag for the O2 so that it can be disconnected UW without flooding. I also exchanged the purge valve in the scrubber for a OPV from my RAY. And added a strip of lead sheet to the bottom of the scrubber to balance it. I must say I'm very pleased with how this thing works. With a good KISS-flow and the HUD and ADV I really do not need to bother much about operating the unit while diving. ADV-injection and OPV-dumping makes very distinct noises so I notice it easily. As you can see I'm no sidemount diver and I believe in carrying lots of bailout. But since the D5-is so slimmed swimming around inside wrecks is no trouble even with a twinset on the back and another sling O2-cylinder. For me the bag volume is almost perfect, slightly above minimum loop volume so the unit does not change much in boyancy during diving. And its easy to go heads up or down trough openings. So have you started on some new sling rebrethers? I'm working on having the cells in the top of the scrubber and to make stripping the unit faster. A fancy thing I just noticed the other day is that an extendair cartridge fits nicely inside the rocket tube with an about 6-7 mm airgap around it... Exhale down around the outside of the cartridge and inhale trough the cartridge. Making a solid holder directing the gas around it could be a nice thing. If the ever start selling those things for a reasonable price here in Europe. Anders
